The Vendor Management & Outsourcing Forum 2002 was held on 4 and 5 November at the NSW Trade & Investment Centre in Sydney,
gathering 80 participants from 37 organisations of both public and private sectors. The objective of the event was to gain a better understanding
of current issues in outsourcing and progress Australian vendor management practices by developing an ongoing strategy and continuing dialogue with those involved.

The Forum brought to Australia Paul Strassmann, a world expert and renowned author on the subject of vendor management and outsourcing.
Among other extremely influential roles, Mr Strassmann was Director of Defence Information in the US Department of Defence, responsible for managing
a US $10 Billion budget and running the corporate information management program across the Department. From July 2002 till March 2003 he was in
the post of CIO for NASA, responsible for a US $2.4 billion IT budget, of which over 80% is outsourced.

Three separate sessions over two days were held under "Chatham House Rules" to encourage participants to share their knowledge and ideas.
The first day brought together policy and decision makers who discussed the problems and challenges they face. The second day was
for a wider audience of those who implement these policies within their organisations. Paul Strassman guided each session, presenting his
last work "Justification of investments in IT in an era of scarce funding".
